School Project:  READ!

For all schools: Public, Private, Home, Volunteers, Parents, etc.

GoldenArk Publishing is attempting to enrich the teaching of reading in every and any setting by providing the public with FREE materials in the form of Instructional Packages. Such a package contains an E-book for reading on a computer (GoldenArk calls it a "MiniBook") or it can be printed on a common color ink jet printer and read holding it in your hand. In addition, the MiniBook is accompanied by an Audio File of an adult reading the entire story. Finally, the MiniBook contains a Glosssary with definitions of difficult words for vocabulary enrichment. These features emphasize some basic approaches to the teaching of reading: see the word, sound out the word, say the word, and eventually write it down. It complements several teaching strategies, including Phonics. At the same time the materials are flexible enough to be integrated into any strategy for the teaching of reading.

There are two types of stories in the various categories: Original stories which we encourage New Authors to write with our assistance (see elsewhere in this website), and stories written in the past which are no longer covered by copyright. Each story that we published is clearly labled as an "Original Story" or a "Edited Classic Reprint." For example, the classic tale of "Dick Wittington and his Cat" is a case in point. It has been a classic for English speaking children and adults since it appeared as a Chapbook in England. Unfortunately, some of its words and turns of phrase are now quaint enough to make it a bit remote for many children and young adults to read. That is why our publication of the story labels it as Edited since we are reprinting the book with appropriate changes where necessary: i.e. in spelling, in grammar, in style, and in cultural touches which would be misunderstood by a modern audience. However, at the same time we strive to keep a Classic Reprint as true to the original story in form and in tone as we possibly can. The changes are often so subtle that readers of the original may not even notice that it has been edited to make it more available for the teaching of reading. We strive to preserve authenticity while promoting readability.

All School Project: READ! The general interest levels are expressed as: Lower Elementary (grades 1 - 4), Upper Elementary (grades 5 - 8), Lower Secondary (grades 9 - 10), and Upper Secondary (grades 11 - 12).
